First up I have the get to know us better questions....
What is your scrapbook "Kryptonite"(what style/colour/etc will people never see on your creations because you cannot deal with it???) Well, my Kryptonite has to be "cutsie" .....give me grunge any day...
What do you listen to or watch wile you scrap and why? Well, I love to play movies or TV series on DVD, preferably something I have already seen and enjoyed..... that way I can create and not be distracted....currently I am enjoying the TV series' "Eureka and Friday Night Lights"
Do you snack or drink while scrapping? What? Confession time yes I snack while scrapping.... preferred snack: "Raspberry Choc Bits" OMG! totally irresistible....
How do you jump start your creativity when you find that it is missing? Tough question to answer, but I force myself to start painting, drawing or stamping anything and I just keep doing it until it's back.... Usually, the hardest part is to actually start, get over that hurdle and your back!
What is your favourite technique(s) to use right now and why? What are some tried and true techniques you love to use? Right now I love making textured backgrounds with stencils, impasto, gesso and modelling paste.... Tried and true techniques, distressing and inking everything, has to be right up there for me...
At what time of day are you most creative, or do you prefer to create? My most creative time is from midnight to three am! Creative juices freely flowing after midnight!!
What makes you heart race? Easy, riding my Harley Davidson!! Creating!! Teaching!! Oh and my hubby of course, lol!
If you were to describe one emotion while scrapbooking, what would it be? Fulfillment!
What are you afraid of? Without question SNAKES! Oh, my Gawd, just typing it gives me chills!!!
If you could choose a talent/gift, what would you take? Tough question, hmmm, and I'm probably supposed to choose something arty/crafty but.... I think I'd have to say Time Travel....you know like in the movies "Jumper/Time Travelers Wife" so I can jump to any point/place in time.... that would be awesome... Yep I think that would have to be it for me...
So now onto my little bit of inspiration that I have created to share with you all today.... "Dream" An Altered Frame...
I wanted to create something using some of my favourite products, naturally Scrap FX (the best chippie), modelling paste/impasto and fantasy film and all put together using Helmar adhesives.
To create the background on the frame, I used modelling paste and a simple plastic knife (you know like you'd use at a picnic) they create great texture and are so cheap!!
For my background inside the frame I used the Scrap FX stencil, (Daisy Garden) with impasto, I then force dried the impasto to get it to bubble up... the whole thing was then painted with gesso and sprayed with various colour sprays, a little metallic rubs applied to the stenciled area and the background is complete.
The final chipboard pieces were painted black, and all pieces were coated with glossy accents to finish them off. The embellishments were adhered with Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive to finish the project off.
Here's a list of all the glorious Scrap FX chippie I used:
I hope you've been inspired to create your own wonderful chippie creations.

ReplyDeletethanks and welcome.... give it a try it really is much easier than it looks :)
Deletethose wings are fierce! (ps-what is impasto?) LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Kate impasto is a cross between texture paste and gel medium.... as such it is more flexible than texture paste like gel medium, but has a more body&opaque finish like texture paste than gel medium.... to me it is the best of both worlds!!!
DeleteWow great piece love your work. Very textural. I agree a snack of choc is my nemesis when I'm scrapping or creating
ReplyDeleteSo cindy, what is the brand name of this impasto paste or a link to see the pic and details of purchasing this paste? Your work is wonderful. I see you are a helmar's girl, i tried to be one of those girls....wink wink. thanks for the deets on the treatments you applied to your work of art, i will be giving this treatment a try on a mini canvas, as your work looks luscious!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ava, Impasto is available in a variety of brands, my personal fav is Derivan Matisse, but it is also made by Golden and even Mont Marte, most art supply places should know of it.... Here (in Oz) Mont Marte is even available in some of the cheap shops like "Spoils".... this is the Derivan website: http://www.derivan.com.au/derivan-products/derivan-mediums.html#impasto

I love your altered frame, it's beautiful! I'm going to try the impasto, thanks for the tip. Also, I would love to follow your inspiring blog!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of "fantasy film" till now- FASCINATING!!!! You used a soldering iron- that's SO BADASS! Also? Harley! I MUSt see a photo of you riding it!!! Stunning project- love how unique it is! I haven't bought any impasto paste- I really like the effects you got from it. And I totally agree getting started is the hardest part- once you feel you have a handle on the work it's easy to finish or mess it up entirely- when this happens to me I have to remind myself that at least I started something!
ReplyDeleteCindy - your frame is outstanding! Your house must be gorgeous if the walls are covered in your art. Beautiful work. TFS.
